The first tri-fold smartphone in the world, Huawei unveiled the Mate XT Ultimate, although the specifics of its processor were originally unknown. Though Huawei has not issued any official comments on the CPU in this new handset, a hands-on experience from the China launch event verified that the Mate XT Ultimate runs on the Kirin 9010 chipset.
From many hands-on reports posted on Weibo, we have also acquired further information that clarifies the features of this creative gadget.
Comprising 1x 2.3 GHz Taishan Big core, 3x 2.18 GHz Taishan Mid cores, and 4x 1.55 GHz Cortex-A510 cores, the Kirin 9010 chipset has an 8-core CPU. Furthermore equipped with a Maleoon 910 MP4 GPU, the gadget is a well-rounded powerhouse for graphics performance as well as computation.
Made by SMIC, the biggest chipmaker in China
Designed by SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation), the Kirin 9010 employs N+2, a locally referred as 7 nm manufacturing technique. This similar technology is used in the Mate 60 series of Huawei from the Kirin 9000s chipset. Especially, the Pura 70 Ultra cameraphone also has the Kirin 9010, therefore confirming its legitimacy.
Pricing and Performance: Mixed Reaction
Given the technical constraints Chinese firms face, the Kirin 9010 performs quite like MediaTek’s Dimensity 8200 processor, which is very remarkable. Though the Mate XT Ultimate costs around $3,000 and performs similarly to devices costing about $300, some buyers may find the price unsatisfactory.
With its tri-fold technology, the Mate XT Ultimate is a design wonder; but, some prospective customers may wonder about its worth given the performance-to—price ratio.
